To the Senior:
These aren't your typical boring senior pictures. We're not here to make you stand awkwardly in a cap and gown throwing up a peace sign. We're here to capture who you actually are right now—your style, your interests, your personality, who you're becoming.
Most seniors feel awkward at first. That's completely normal. But here's what happens: Within 10-15 minutes, you forget about being self-conscious. You start having fun. And suddenly we're getting shots that actually look like YOU, not some fake magazine version of yourself.
To the Parents:
Your kid won't be a senior forever. In a few months, they'll graduate. Maybe they'll go to college, join the military, start working, travel—whatever their path is. And you? You'll wish you could remember this version of them more clearly.
After watching Alzheimer's take memories from our family, we learned this the hard way: These moments don't come back. Your teenager, exactly as they are right now—this is finite. Memory fades. Photos don't.
So let's make this easy, fun, and totally them.
What Makes This Different
Senior pictures don't have to look like...senior pictures. Here's our approach:
- We're not doing boring posed shots. No fake smiles, no stiff standing, no cheesy props (unless YOU want them). We keep you moving, interacting with your environment, being yourself.
- We use Alaska as your backdrop. 30+ years living here means we know the best locations—mountain views, urban settings, waterfront spots, hidden gems tourists don't know about. Your session, your vibe, your choice.
- We let you be YOU. Love sports? Bring your jersey. Into music? Bring your instrument. Bookworm? Bring your favorite novel. Whatever makes you YOU—that's what we want to capture.
- We work fast and efficiently. Most sessions are 60-90 minutes. We shoot during golden hour when Alaska's light is absolutely stunning. We don't waste time—we know what we're doing.
Parents: These aren't just yearbook photos. These are the photos you'll frame, the ones that capture this exact season of their life, the ones you'll look at in 20 years and remember who they were at 17 or 18.
What to Wear
This is where most people stress out. Don't. Here's the secret: Wear what makes you feel confident and looks like you.
The 3-Outfit Strategy
We recommend bringing 3 different looks to give you variety:
Outfit #1: The "This Is Me" Look
This is your everyday, comfortable style. What you'd actually wear hanging out with friends. Jeans and your favorite shirt, athletic wear if you're an athlete, band tee if you're into music—whatever feels authentically YOU.
- Guys: Well-fitted jeans (not baggy or super distressed), your favorite t-shirt or henley, flannel, or hoodie. Add a denim or leather jacket for layers.
- Girls: Jeans and a cute top, casual dress, romper, or athletic wear. Whatever you feel most like yourself in.
Outfit #2: The Dressed-Up Look
This is your "getting fancy" outfit. More polished, more intentional. This is what we'll shoot during golden hour for that magazine-quality light.
- Guys: Button-down shirt, dress pants or dark jeans, blazer or sport coat. Add a tie if you want, skip it if you don't. Dress shoes or clean boots.
- Girls: Cocktail dress, formal gown, romper, or a chic pantsuit. Heels look great but bring comfortable shoes for walking to locations. Jewelry, accessories—go for it.
Outfit #3: The Personal Look
This is where you show your interests, hobbies, or future plans. This outfit tells YOUR story.
- Athlete: Your jersey, letter jacket, or team gear
- College-bound: Your future college sweatshirt or gear
- Military-bound: Consider incorporating uniform elements
- Musician: Band shirt or performance outfit
- Creative: Whatever expresses your style—vintage, edgy, artsy, preppy
Note: If you have your cap and gown, bring it. We can throw it over one of these outfits for a few classic graduation shots. But it's definitely not required or the focus.
The Golden Rules
- Wear what YOU love, not what you think you're supposed to wear. If you feel uncomfortable or fake in an outfit, it will show in the photos.
- Solid colors or simple patterns. Avoid busy patterns, large logos, and neon colors. They're distracting. Solid colors keep the focus on YOUR face.
- Fit matters. Make sure your clothes actually fit well—not too baggy, not too tight. Tailored looks better than off-the-rack every time.
- Try everything on beforehand. Walk around, sit down, move. If something feels weird or uncomfortable, change it now, not the day of.
- Think about Alaska's season. Spring means layers for unpredictable weather. Summer means lighter fabrics. Fall colors look gorgeous outdoors. Winter means cozy sweaters, jackets, and boots.
- Colors that pop photograph beautifully. Think jewel tones (burgundy, emerald, royal blue), warm earth tones, or classic black and white. Avoid all-beige or washed-out colors.
- Timeless over trendy (mostly). Yes, we want your personality. But that super trendy look might be embarrassing in 5 years. Classic styles age better.
Still stuck? Text us photos of your outfit options. We've been doing this for 30+ years in Alaska—we know what works with our light, our landscapes, our weather.
Props and Personal Touches
This is what makes your session YOURS instead of generic senior pictures #4,582.
Bring things that matter to you:
- Sports gear: Ball, cleats, glove, helmet, whatever you use
- Musical instruments: Guitar, violin, trumpet—we'll get action shots and posed shots
- Car or truck: If you have a vehicle you're proud of, we can incorporate it
- Hobbies: Skateboard, art supplies, camera, books, fishing gear, dance shoes
- Pets: If you have a well-behaved dog or other pet, bring them (and someone to wrangle them)
- College acceptance letters: These make great shots if you want to announce where you're going
- Letters or awards: If you have something you're proud of, we can work it in
Don't go overboard—1-2 meaningful props are perfect. We're not trying to create a scavenger hunt photo. We just want to show who YOU are.
"But I'm Awkward in Photos..."
Yeah, we know. Most seniors feel that way. Here's the truth:
It's Normal to Feel Weird
Having a camera pointed at you is inherently awkward. You're not a professional model. You don't do this every day. Of course it feels strange at first.
But here's what happens: Within 10-15 minutes, you forget about the camera. We keep you moving, give you things to do, crack jokes, play music. And suddenly you're not thinking about how awkward you feel—you're just being yourself.
We Won't Leave You Hanging
We give you specific direction. Not vague "be natural" nonsense. Real instructions:
- "Walk toward me and look back over your shoulder."
- "Lean against that wall and put your hands in your pockets."
- "Look down, and when I say 'now,' look up and give me a small smile."
- "Fake laugh. No really, fake laugh—it always turns into a real laugh."
You're never left wondering what to do. We've photographed hundreds of seniors. We know exactly how to guide you through this.
Movement Beats Stiffness
We keep you moving. Walking, exploring, interacting with your environment, doing something with your props. The more you move, the less time you have to feel self-conscious.
And moving creates better photos. Period. Static, stiff poses look exactly like that—stiff. Natural movement creates dynamic, interesting shots that actually look like you.
Tell Us Your Concerns
Seriously. If you're self-conscious about something, tell us before the session.
- Don't like your smile? We'll capture you laughing naturally instead of forcing it.
- Worried about a specific angle? We know how to work with that.
- Not into forced posing? Perfect. Neither are we.
Communication is everything. We can't help if we don't know what you need.
Before Your Session
Timing and Location
We shoot during golden hour—about 1-2 hours before sunset—when Alaska's light is absolutely magic. This is non-negotiable for outdoor shoots because the light makes THAT much difference.
As for location? Tell us your vibe. Urban, natural, waterfront, mountains, downtown, hidden gems—we know Alaska inside and out. 30+ years here means we have spots that make your photos look incredible.
Have somewhere meaningful to you? A favorite hiking spot, where you spend time with friends, your school, your job? Tell us. We love incorporating your story.
Day-Before Checklist
- Lay out all 3 outfits (including shoes, accessories, everything)
- Iron or steam your clothes (wrinkles show up in photos)
- Get a good night's sleep
- Stay hydrated (seriously—water makes a difference in how you look)
- Avoid foods that make you bloated
- If you're getting a haircut, do it 1-2 weeks before (not the day before)
- Gather your prop
What to Bring
- All 3 outfits with shoes and accessories
- Props or items that represent you
- Hairbrush and hair ties (Alaska wind)
- Touch-up makeup if you wear it
- Water and light snacks
- Layers for weather changes (this is Alaska)
- Your favorite music playlist (we can play it during the session)
- Parent or friend to help wrangle props/outfit changes/moral support
During Your Session
Sessions typically last 60-90 minutes. We're efficient—we don't waste time. We know what we're doing, so we work fast to get you maximum variety without keeping you out there for hours.
Here's what to expect:
How We Work
We're a husband-wife team. He shoots, she plans and poses. This means you get the technical skill of an experienced photographer combined with someone who knows how to make you look good and feel comfortable.
We'll start with your most comfortable outfit to warm up. Get you moving, get you relaxed. Then we'll work through your other looks, saving the dressy outfit for golden hour.
We show you photos as we go. This helps you see what's working and gives you confidence. You're not waiting until weeks later wondering if anything turned out good.
What We'll Ask You to Do
- Move. Walk, explore, interact with your environment. Movement creates better photos than standing still.
- Trust our direction. If we ask you to do something that feels weird, try it anyway. We promise it looks good.
- Be yourself. Don't try to be some version of yourself you think we want. Authentic always photographs better than fake.
- Have fun. Seriously. The more fun you're having, the better the photos. We're not here to make this feel like a chore.
Your chaos, our calm. If something goes wrong—weather changes, outfit malfunction, you're feeling awkward—we've seen it all. We'll handle it. You just focus on being you.
After Your Session
We know you're excited (or your parents are excited, or both). Here's what happens next:
- We'll cull through hundreds of images, eliminating duplicates, blurs, unflattering moments
- Your gallery will be ready within 2-4 weeks
- We might share a sneak peek on social media (with your permission) the next day
- Use these images for yearbook, graduation announcements, college applications, social media, thank you cards, gifts for grandparents—whatever you need
Parents: Please print these. Not just the yearbook photo—the real ones that show their personality. Frame them. Put them on your walls. In 20 years, these photos will be priceless.
One Last Thing
To the Senior:
This isn't about being perfect. It's about being YOU. Right now, at this exact moment—who you are, what you love, who you're becoming. Don't try to be someone else. Don't stress about looking like magazine models. Just show up as yourself and trust us to make you look amazing.
To the Parents:
Your kid won't be a kid much longer. In a few months, this chapter closes. They'll move on to whatever's next—and so will you. But right now, you get to freeze this moment. Who they are at 17 or 18. Before adult life kicks in. Before everything changes.
After watching Alzheimer's take memories from our family, we learned: These moments don't come back. Memory fades. Photos don't.
Memory fades. Photos don't.
So show up. Wear what makes you feel confident. Bring what matters to you. Trust us to guide you. And let's capture this—exactly as it is.
Nothing lost, nothing forgotten. That's our promise.
